Really bad diaper rash, please help?

she got the diaper rash yesterday and i have been using desitin and baby powder with cornstarch in it (this usually helps) but its not helping because she has diarrhea and poops at least once an hour. She screams bloody murder every time i change her, what can i use instead of baby wipes that wont hurt her as much? I noticed this morning open sores that are actually bleeding. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, i hate seeing her in pain. Thank You!!!!!

Keep the diaper off as much as possible. Let it dry out. I had to use anti-fungal meds (per my Dr) to get rid of my daughter's. Bag balm works good to. There are prescriptions you can try too, so, ask your Dr.

Bring her to a doctor!!! She might be allergic to something that you are doing. In the mean time while you are waiting for the doctors appointment try diaper rash cream or hand lotion.

For gosh sakes, take her to the doctor!

My son had this when he was a baby, it turned out to be a yeast infection! You really need to take her to the dr. and have him/her check it out. If you leave it untreated it could turn very serious. But in the meantime try just using vaseline (petroleum jelly) or call and talk to a nurse and see what else you can use. Best of luck :)

My sisters baby had very bad diaper rash. She is allergic to any perfumy stuff etc. when she took off the diaper it looked like a red diaper was on the baby in the same spot. She was embarrassed to change her in front of people. My brothers girlfriend seen this and said, oh it will be OK. Ive seen this before. My little girl had it and it turned out to be a yeast infection. I'm not good with names of meds. I don't have kids. But I think its that HD cream. So, instead of treating her for diaper rash, look for this cream that help with yeast infection type problems. Or ask some of your friends that have kids about this type of problem with baby's to find out if they know of the medicine I'm talking about.

Do not use baby wipes, they have alcohol in them which stings really bad. Use a soft cotton cloth moistened with warm water instead. (old t-shirts work really well). My son had a bleeding diaper rash before and it wasn't a yeast infection or anything like that, just a bad rash brought on by diarrhea just like in your case. I used the soft cloth for cleansing and an ointment that BLOCKS moisture getting to the rash, not the creamy stuff, but the really thick goopy stuff that you have to scrub to get off your hands... (I used A&D ointment, but anything with zinc oxide in it, or just plain petroleum jelly would work too) and it cleared itself up within the day. His diarrhea was broght on by lactose intolerance, I switched his formula and it was gone right away.

It's actually the diarrhea I'm most concerned about in your baby's case. If it doesn't stop soon you probably should take her to the dr. for that. Plenty of fluids including pedialyte in the meantime though!

Stop using wipes or anything that has any kind of chemicals in it to clean her up. It will only agravate the problem. Use a regular washcloth or similar and warm water to clean your baby when changing her diaper. Let her air out as much as possible to let the rash dry out. Before putting on any kind of cream make sure her skin is dry or you will be just adding to the problem by trapping moisture against the skin.

One thing you should seriously consider is switching to cloth diapers. Cloth diapers are much better and cheaper in the long run than disposable diapers.

Cloth diapers breathe better than disposable diapers.

Cloth diapers are a lot softer than disposable diapers.

Cloth diapers don't get hot and sticky like disposables.

Cloth diapers cause less, if any, diaper rashes than disposables.

Cloth diapers are basically a one size fits all diaper, if you are using the standard rectangle or prefold diapers. Myself, I wear contoured cloth diapers that I made for myself with elastic in the waist and leg openings.

What else can I say about them. I'm incontinent and wear diapers 24 / 7 because of a medical condition. I've worn both disposables and cloth for extended periods of time to make up my mind which I would prefer.

True, disposables are more convenient for the most part but the are very uncomfortable compared to cloth diapers. For all the reasons I stated above, I prefer the cloth diapers and that is now what I wear all the time. I only use disposables on long trips where cloth would be way too much of an inconvenience.

Laundering cloth isn't as bad as so many people make it out to be. I do two loads a week for myself. I was them in regular detergent without any additives. I use vinegar in the first rinse and nothing in the second rinse.

Never use bleach on cloth diapers because it breaks down the fibers and the diapers wear out sooner than they should.

Never use fabric softener on diapers because it coats the fibers and makes them less absorbent which causes leaking at times.

If a diaper isn't thick enough, with cloth you double up, what do you do with disposbles? You can double up but then you have wasted the cost of two diapers and nothing on doubling the cloth ones.

Not much else to say other than cloth is my recommendation, unless you hadn't already guessed that.
