What can I do about cronic diaper rash?

My daughter is 18 months and has always had fairly bad diaper rash. I have tried everything and it keeps coming back. Everyone seems to know better than me, but no one seems to have the answer?! Can anyone help me with some advice I may not have heard of?

okey doke. if youve tried it already, then ignore me;) try a combo of A&D ointment and Desitin. FYI, Desitin comes in two varieties, but most people don't know. one kind has 10 % zinc oxide - the other has 40%. use the forty percent. whenever i used the 10% stuff on my son, he broke out in a rash:( the combo of the higher percent desitin and the A&D ointment seemed to work like a charm. check the ingredient list on the back of the desitin tubes to find the percentage. good luck!

Sometimes it's the formula or milk you give them that causes it. My best advice is to keep dry diapers on as often as possible, and use Desitin...I think it works the best from personal experience.

For the last resort go to the Dr. They give some great diaper rash cream.

Call her doctor and ask her for Nystatin.

The ingredients in the creams could irritate her. Or it could be her diapers. my first son was terribly allergic to Luvs diapers. My youngest son can't have the majority of diaper creams put on him. So if it keeps coming back, talk to her doctor to see if they have any tips.

Sometimes a diaper rash has a yeast connection. Ask your doctor about that possibility. Try not to feed her tons of sugary foods and fruit juices. I know some people have had luck with prescription cremes, so ask you pediatrician.

actually open air is really good for the rash. change diaper often even if you cannnot feel dampness it sould still be there and when the diaper is pushed up against baby's bottom it will keep it moist. baby powder is not the best but if you use it use cornstarch and never apply straight to bottom, pour powder on your hand away from baby then apply with your hand. the powder can settle in the baby's lungs causing a form or pnuemonia. but my best advice would be to try to keep the diaper off when you see the rash starting to develop and change the diaper more often. hope it helps.

I'm going to make an assumption, since most people do these days, I'm going to guess you are using disposable diapers on your daughter.

If so, have you considered switching to cloth diapers? She may be allergic to the chemicals that are in all disposable diapers.

Why not avoid the possibility all together and use cloth diapers?

I know they cause more laundry. You may have to do 2 more loads of laundry a week. It's a small sacrifice for the health and safety of your baby.

All that plastic, paper and chemicals against your baby's skin. That can't be good.

Your baby will potty train sooner when wearing cloth diapers because they can feel the wetness and don't like it, therefore they want to be out of diapers sooner.

Not to mention our landfills. I can't believe that the plastic, paper, chemicals and human waste going into our landfills is a good thing. The human waste breeds harmful bacteria that filters down into our drinking water, hmmmmm. . . . yummy! The diaper itself will take decades to decay.

Think about it. Isn't it your baby's health and comfort that should come first, not the convenience for you when it comes to changing the diaper??
