SEVERE diaper rash... please read details... short, simple answers please? |
9months old. He's teething. BM's are loose. Formula was changed... so I've temporarily changed him back to rule out the formula being the problem. Dr told me to mix hydrocortisone cream, triple antibiotic ointment, and balmex. Doesn't seem to work. Not using wipes, only water and soft baby cloths to cleanse. Would like short answers of things to try. Is in cloth diapers for now. Gets some "air" time too. What worked for you? Tenactin? Vaseline? Nothing at all? Please help. It's breaking my heart to see him hurt like this. Forget about all that cortizone, balmex and all the other crap...use simple Cornstarch. Works every time. A-d ointment worked for me. Balmex or Desitin worked for my girls but it could be the diapers or laundry soap you can also try a bath in baking soda (I have never tried it but my mother-in-law says it works) Also try wipes only with BMs. GOOD LUCK! One of my children was born with a yeast infection that I thought was a diaper rash. It got progressively worse, until a proper diagnosis was made, and I had her to the Doc's on several occasions for the same rash. Finally, at about the age of 8 months we got the proper medicine. I don't know however if this is the case with your son, only a Doc could diagnose. Perhaps a second opinion would be in order. have your doctor prescrible elidel. It is prescription only but it will work. Personally, I always found that Desitin ointment was the very best! It's thick and white, so once you put it on the clean red area, it will be difficult to wash off....so don't! When the baby passes urine/b.m. it won't burn him like it's doing now. If you're using cloth diapers, you have to wash them twice to get all of the ammonia out of them. If you wash them in bleach first, then in another wash with just soft detergent, then dry them thoroughly, that should do it. I agree with you that the antibiotic ointment will not do it. Forget the wipes for right now and use some soft soap and water on a washcloth. You can wash these with the diapers. Once the rash clears up, keep putting the ointment on the area even when there is no rash and he won't have it again. I washed diapers for 3 kids and I think the disposables sometimes cause alot of rash problems. Godloveya and the little one. i know someone told you a-d ointment that peeled and burned my son's skin they were very fair as infants and that stuff BURNED THEIR SKIN OFF! use BALMEX! it's milder and gentler for babies delicate skin,i don't know what color your baby is...my dark-skinned girlfriend used a-d ointment on her daughter,no problem.if baby is fair,as in blonde don't chance it just my experience! Try "buttpaste". It comes in yellow box and I got it at Target. Worked really well on my child's bad diaper rash. cream must be rubbed into the skin untill they disapear and 'not' look like an emulsion on the skin - hope this helps i always put crisco the white lard used for cooking, use it all day and put it on before bed i will work wonders by the next morning....mother of 3 here......good luck Baking soda in the bath water, just let them soak for a while. Had same problem, worked better than any zinc oxide or perscription cream. Works for chicken pox as well. My daughter had what I thought was diaper rash. Took her to the doctor and he found the same type of rash around her eyes and in her mouth. Turned out to be low Platelets. Put her on steroids type meds. Cleared up in just a few months. I have been told that teething does not cause nappy rash. Every one of my children got nappy rash when they were teething, so there has to be a correlation between the two. What worked for me, was zinc and castor oil cream, or zinc and starch powder. It did lessen the rash, but it was only when the teeth came through did my kids nappy rash go completely. I also found cloth diapers made the rash worse, maybe because of the washing powder etc. Disposable diapers, while they are more expensive, seemed to lessen diaper rash. TRY DESITIN CREAM , THAT WORKS TOO A-D ontmend and put in sun IIIIIIIIIf all else fails it probably is not a diaper rash at all, and will need Lotrimin. Ask your Doctor first, but it really works. get a powder puff & use CORNSTARCH--unbelievable how well this works!! keep an eye on that rash as it could get a yeast infection Baby gold bond powder. Trust me, I babysat for a friend of mine while she was in the hospital and the first time I changed his diaper, he screamed out in agony. When I looked down he had a really bad diaper rash, it was soo bad that some of his skin peeled off on the diaper. I went and out some gold bond powder and the very next time I changed him the rash had already started to heal. Also try having him lie on a water proof pad with no diaper for a while to allow some fresh air to get to it and prevent infection from the urine and feces My daughter had a similar rash and none of the regular creams worked. I finally found bottom balm at http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com It works like a charm and is all natural. If this is a yeast infection (and it very well could be) NONE of these suggestions will help and will in fact make the yeast worse. Especially cornstarch- do not use this if it ends up being a yeast infection. |
