How can I get rid of my son's yeast diaper rash (thrush)?

My breastfeeding son and I were diagnosed with thrush a few months ago... he had it in his mouth and on his fingers, and me on my nipples, of course. We were both put on Nystatin creams and oral meds. They didn't work. Then we were put on oral Diflucan. That didn't work. Since then, the yeast has spread to my baby's diaper-area, and is now heading down his thighs. It's getting worse and worse. We've also tried Oxistat and now powder Nystatin.

We both seem to be healed, except for his butt. I've also tried Gentian Violet, vinegar, corn starch, salt water baths, etc. etc. This has been going on for SO many months - any help would be appreciated.

I have also tried Desatin and A&D - they were my first lines of defense.

I am not a doctor but I am a daycare teacher. I have been in daycare for over ten years and seen my share of thrush and yeast infections (boys and girls). Lotramin, for athlete's foot is sometimes prescribed. Use it after every diaper change. It sounds funny, yes, but it works. Remember always wipe baby from front to back. One swipe with one wipe. This may help cut down on the number of yeast infections.

desiten? have you tried that cream?

Has his pedicatrician seen his skin recently? It may no longer be thrush, but another fungal infection. He needs to be seen by his health care provider. asap.

Corn starch is contraindicated for yeast infections ...it actually feeds the yeast and makes it worse.
For comfort for his little bottom, try putting a little Milk of Magnesia (Not a mint flavored one) on a cotton ball and spread it on to the red areas and let it dry. It will cool it off right quick. This will NOT heal an infection, just make him a little more comfortable.

I am very surprised that the Nystatin did not help~

Have you thought about allergies? Depends on how young he is on whether or not he is old enough for testing but it's an option...
