What are some home remedies for soothing my one year old's diaper rash?? |
What are some home remedies for soothing my one year old's diaper rash?? I agree with tinkerbell on this, although all are good answers. Plain old vanilla yogurt worked very well for both my kids when they were in diapers. aloe vera gel DR Smiths diaper rash medicine Try this bee's wax ointment. It's good: Yogurt! Plain yogurt. I used this on my daughter's diaper rash, and it cleared up. Go to a local farm store or pharmacy and find a tin of "Vermont Bag Balm" It is used on dairy cattle to reduce rash and inflamation of the cow udder and by outside construction workers to heal dry cracked hands. Worked wonders on our child when he was little and suffering from diaper rash. Contains mostly lanoline. Our pediatrician used to advise us to let their backsides air out as much as possible, so we'd let them play in the playpen and keep an eye out for messes. Dries it up a lot faster. Besides the usual ointments like A&D, & Desitin, warm oatmeal bath are good , also you can use good old fashioned corn starch on his bottom to keep it dry & change him as often as possible. Try zinc oxide. It worked well with my daughter when she was younger. I particularly like the Johnson & Johnson diaper creme. Good luck. This might be messy but it is the best for diapper rash. Let the little one run around without a diapper on. If you absolutly must put one on then use a cloth diapper and no rubber pants to allow the skin the breath. Even training pants would work. Just means you have to be attentive to putting her/him on the potty when you think they need to use it. Also one person metioned it might be a yeast infection. It is always best to have this checked out with the doctor. I had one child who had yeast infections all the time and only a medicated cream would help him. Hydrocortisone cream is the best for this. You can get 1% over the counter and the stronger stuff from the doctor. If the normal zinc oxide creams aren't working (Desitin, etc.) it may be yeast related. Monistat works well, and is pretty much what the doc will give you anyway. Try that first, it cant hurt, and is cheaper that a Dr appt. and a prescription. I used it on my kids several times. Also make sure you r using wipes without added fragrance and stuff. That can irritate little bottoms. Use oatmeal. Regular oatmeal, (not instant) and some warm water, (enough to make a paste) put it on the area and let it dry. No diaper. when the redness and irritation subside, clean off with a warm wet washcloth and use baby gold bond every time you change the diaper. For recurring problems see a pediatrician to check for allergies to detergent, etc. |
