Just wondering what types of ointments other parents use for diaper rash and do they work?

What are your thoughts on A&D ointment?

you don't have to spend money on those expensive ointments. their main ingredient is petrolem jelly. a tub of vaseline is cheap and creates a sufficient barrier between the skin and irritants.

They all work. I dont like the smell of Desinex, so I use Balmex or Aveno.

anything with zinc in it, works like a charm!

Triple Paste, it is usually behind the counter at the pharmacy.
You have to ask for it but you don't need a prescription.
Worked great when my daughter was a baby, Doctor recommended, has like 10% more medication than regular brand over the counter stuff.

I use Penaten cream. It provides an occlusive barrier so that whatever you find in the diapers (foeces, urine, soap residue if you're using cloth diapers) is separated from the skin protecting it from further irritation. If you don't like the mild fragrance, you can get zinc ointment at any local pharmacy. It also works well as a complete sunscreen. When the baby gets older you can even get coloured ones which are fun for the kids and encourage them to protect their skin from sun damage.

I use Desitin cream... I don't care for the way it smells, but it gets the job done!! If it isn't a severe case, then I use the Desitin Creamy-- it smells MUCH better! But it contains less medicine than the regular kind.

sudacrem......works on everything!!!

We use Desitin and it works great. It's the first thing I tried and it really seems to do the job. I also tried California baby Diaper Area wash and that works pretty good too. Aquaphor is good for normal rashes.
