Can you identify a rash for me? |
My son was diagnosed with strep throat a few days ago and this morning woke up with a rash. It is mainly on his privates and his stomach and appears to be red, raised, and looks like welts. There are about 15 circular red, raised spots, and it is very itchy for him. The rash is also on his arm. The arm, stomach, and privates are the only place he has this rash. He is 5 yrs old and wears a pull up at night, so at first the diaper area appeared to be diaper rash... I called the doctor, and she doesn't think its a reaction to the med, as he's had antibiotics in this class before. But, she didn't mention scarlet fever. She did say that sometimes the strep can cause a rash. Does this mean he has scarlet fever? This is his 3rd case of strep in 6 weeks. Did the doctor place him on antiobiotics that he could be having a reaction too? Also, sometimes with strep can rarely develop into scarlet fever which is characterized by a rash that usually begins in the private areas. It usually develops between the age of 2-10 years old. Children develop fever, chills, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diffuse abdominal pain, lethargy, and headache. The way that the doctor originally explained it to me was that the strep infection "went to the skin". Make your doctor aware. Strep is routinely treated with a penicillin or erthromycin based medication if your child is not allergic to it. Hope this helps!! Is your son on meds for the strep? Probably..so this may be an aalergic reaction from the med that manifests itself in warm areas of the body. |
