Does dialysis ever stop working? |
A coworker mentioned his dad has been on dialysis for 8 years and the Dr says it is not working anymore. I thought a person could be on dialysis till they died. Does dialysis ever stop working? They need to have a site to do dialysis. I have seen a few people who have been on it that long and quite often they run out of places that they can put a site. When the last site isn't working really well the dialysis doesn't work as well either. It could be that or something totaly different. His dad may have other issues going on (like another disease) that is cauing the dialysis to not be working well anymore. My brother has had tons of shunts, grafts and fistulas. The doctors have gotten better about saving them..when it starts to lose blood flow; they ballon the vein to open it up. During a time when his main dialysis site is closed or new, they put in a central picc line to run dialysis through. Report It If the organs just give up |
