When is dialysis used in medicine? |
when is dialysis used in medicine? What is the purpose of dialysis in medicine? This is a question from biology I don't get! Any help would be appreciated! it's used when the failure of kidneys occur Dialysis is used on people whos kidneys are not working well enough to get rid of the toxins in our blood we all produce. Kidneys can break down for several reasons...from injury, to different medications, to disease. Kidney failure is 100 percent fatal if not treated with dialysis. But not all people who have SLOW WORKING kidneys need dialysis. The doctor will decide. And not all people who start dialysis need to continue with it for the rest of their life, but a lot of them do. There are a couple different kinds of dialysis. One is called hemodialysis-this is when the person is hooked up to a special machine that cleans out the blood (does the work of the kidney) and the other is called peritoneal dialysis, this is where the blood is cleaned out by putting a solution into the belly by a special tube that has been put there by a doctor during a surgery. |
