Dialysis and drug tests?

is it true that dialysis will clean you of chemicals that would make you fail a drug test? like can you do drugs and pass a drug test after doing dialysis, is what I'm asking. It's not me I'm just curious, so please don't say 'drugs will mess you up... ruin your kidneys...' I know. thanks

Well each drug will behave differently but I am confident the short answer is no.

Dialysis works by passing the blood along a permeable membrane with dialysate on the other side of the membrane. Blood waste is drawn through the membrane from the blood to the dialysate. Those waste molecules pass through the membrane because they are trying to achieve balance - making it so there is the same amount of waste on both sides of the membrane.

So if we assume that the drug molecules are in fact moving across the membrane it will still mean that some will remain in the blood because dialysis can only remove some of the molecules it does not remove all of the molecules.

Since someone on dialysis does not always urinate, in that case a urine based drug test is not an option. This leaves a blood draw but many courts consider a blood draw to be too invasive to allow routinely i.e. it is legally easier to challenge a blood draw than it is to challenge a urine test.
