Question for health proffessional or dialysis patient. what is the best way for a dialysis patient to stay...?

unconstipated. My father has been on dialysis for over 21 years and does great on dialysis and works very hard to keep himself healthy. He has a hard time with constipation. He is not diabetic.

Increase fiber in diet. I know that he can't really eat fruit because of the potassium, but have him ask his dietician if he can add fiber clear to his diet. 1-it's good for you 2-you mix it with a small drink and it doesn't taste.

He's getting constipated because they are giving him iron to keep him from getting anemic. There is no way to stop that.

Also he can be put on colace. It is over the counter and can be used.

Above all, as a dialysis patient, NEVER take anything without first clearing it with a NEPHROLOGIST, not the primary care physician.
