Diabetic mothers? |
I am a 22 year old insulin dependant diabetic who just found out that I am pregnant. My blood sugars where in the 200's until we recently got me on NPH...I want some input from diabetic mothers on this..Im afraid my child will have defects because of the blood sugars being out of control..someone please lend some advice Get in touch with a perinatal group. They treat hi risk pregnancies. Many groups are located in hospitals. I am a mom of a Type 1 daughter, so can't give the advice based on being pregnant, but have a few suggestions. I am sure you will get some moms to answer. First off, congrats!! What a wonderful blessing to be added to your family. Secondly, try to relax a little...breathe. :-) Worrying too much will add to your stress and BG levels and isn't good for you or your baby. There are risk factors with being pregnant and diabetic, but with good prenatal care and working with your endo, you will be able to have a healthy pregnancy and baby. Your hormones are going to go all out of whack being pregnant, and your BG levels will probably drive you nuts at times, but it IS possible. I know a few Type 1 mommies who have had healthy babies...one found out she was Type 1 and pregnant at the same time! It sounds like being on a different insulin is helping you be in better control. Your insulin regimen may be adjusted and you will be closely monitored, so please try not to worry too much and enjoy the miracle of a new life being created in your body! Good luck and best wishes to you! |
