I was told I am diabetic because my sugar was 170 after fasting, but my sugar since has not been over 150.?

After being diagnosed as diabetic, I have been watching my sugar levels. After eating I get to as high as 150 and at imes drop to under 100 after 2 hours. In the morning my sugar is uaually under 90, but never lower than 60. Is there a chance I am not diabetic?

Not much chance at all - I'd say you'll have to get used to being diabetic.

Those numbers are good, but what matters is that your pancreas is able to do its job. Sounds like you were diagnosed early on, which is great - you have the power now to learn about carbohydrates vs insulin vs exercise (the basics of diabetes control) and take control of the diabetes *before* it becomes a problem.

Have you done a second fasting test? Diabetes should never be diagnosed from just one test. Either that or a GTT and A1c test. If you haven't had any of this then ask your doctor about a double check.

Don't get your hopes up... even 150 is pretty high for a non-diabetic, so I think your doctor was right to diagnose you. Make the most of your early diagnosis and check out diabetes forums etc - there are a lot of diabetics out there who would love to help you.

check your A1C levels and your fasting sugar levels...you are probably border-line pre-diabetic and keep monitoring the two tests mentioned.

The result of your first blood glucose level could be:
1. false positive or an error.
2. shooting up of your blood glucose level due to stresses, anxiety, etc.

I guess you are better off living as a diabetic patient although you are healthy than living the other way around.

Normal fasting blood glucose levels are between 70 and 100.

Accept the facts and start making some changes in your eating habits, exercise, etc.

Did you know that home testing meters can be off by as much as 20%? So your low readings taken at home may be off, but it is highly unlikely that the lab is off.

Anyone with a fasting glucose of 170 is diabetic. That is HIGH and not normal, regardless of your numbers at other times.

Listen to your doctor.
