Diabetic and carb counting?

I'm a newly diagnosed diabetic type 2 and I have a couple of questions about carb. My frustration is not knowing what my max on carb intake per serving should be. How many carbs per serving should I not exceed? Additionally, I'm learning that it's a common myth to think that diabetics should avoid sugar. That's totally not true. I'm told that its the total carb intake that you should be concerned with. I.E. eating a slice of bread with "0 g of sugar" listed on the ingredients means didly squat if the bread has 30grams of carbs per slice!!
Can somebody please help me? I'm figuring that If I can set some type of carb intake guideline...then I can be more effective w/ controlling my blood sugar. thank you

I had a lot of the same questions. Sugars / Carbs and all those confusting foods. The best source that I had found was a book called "Sugarbusters!". It explains about sugars and carbs. It tells you what kind of changes to make in your diet (not too many) that will make it simple on figuring out what to eat and not to eat. You can't really say how many carbs to eat in a day because there are good carbs and bad carbs. Same with sugar. Refined sugar needs to be avoided, but the sugars from fruit are okay in moderation. I had almost all the sympthoms of being diabetic (and some causing me to have to go to the doctors quite often), and now I have it undercontrol (haven't been to a doctor in a few years). This book explains how to eat as well as how everything works.

Your doctor should refer you to a dietian specializing in nutritional care for diabetics. Each person's body reacts differently to foods so she would develop a personalized plan for you. You can also see which foods raise your blood sugar too high; keep track.

You should see a dietician for more specific details but I will share a little of what my dietician has given me. 15 grams of carbs is considered to be 1 serving. Based on 1800 - 200 calories per day, my dietician figured I can have 17 servings of carbs per day. I have 4 for breakfast, 5 for lunch and supper, and 1 serving as a snack 3 times a day. I was diagnosed last October and started doing this in November. I got my blood sugar under control in January and it has been good every day since.

Beware of the diabetes zone dot com. It is a dangerous scam.
