Diabetic cakes? |
my boyfriend is diabetic and his bday is coming up and i want to bake him a cake and surprise him at school but i dont know of any diabetic safe cakes and i dont want him to have to worry about the sugar level. any ideas/recipes? SO many cakes here to chose from According to my research on this use an artificial sweetener, instead of sugar in the recipe, and it carbs they need to count. so basically, they can eat cake (a small place as long as they fit the carbs in there meal plan). Frankly, it doesn't matter if you back a sugar free cake or not. If you include flour or milk in the cake (and trust me, its VERY hard to find a cake that is flour, sugar and milk free), there will be carbohydrates, which your boyfriend should be counting. Do both yourself and him a favor. Make a REAL cake, and do a carbohydrate analysis on it instead. You can do that by adding up the carbhydrates in the cake, and dividing them by serving size. Most people rate flour as about 80g/cup, sugar as 15g/T, and milk as 12g/cup. Other exchanges can be found on packaging. He's going to worry regardless, but try looking for recipies that substitute splenda for sugar.. or even splenda for baking. It should ease his worries a little. And don't flip out if he doesn't eat more than a slice, because if he's listening to his doctors, he's watching what he eats and the quantities so that he doesn't have too much of a problem. make a cake with splenda and fresh fruit and not only will it be delicious it will have only the sugar from the fruit which is much better than refined sugar. Stay away from Splenda.... splenda is still a sugar! |
