Am I a diabetic? Im pregnant and scared?

I am very freaked out because I am pregnant I am 37weeks and My Dr told me that I am diabetic because my sugar level is a little high, but I havent felt any symptoms or felt bad (physically) I know I am not diabetic because I use to work as a phlebotomist, and I would always draw my blood and make sure my cholesterol etc...was at level I would always check my sugar and it was perfectly fine. Is this maybe happening because I am pregnant, which is then called gestational diabetes, and not diabetic? Has this happened to you? Was your sugar level a little high when you were pregnant but then went back to normal once you had your baby? I dont have any history of diabetes, that is why im freaking out, please let me know if something similar has happened to you!

Something similar happened to me. :)

The baby was big...the last three weeks I had to eat according to a diatician's instructions. I was pre-eclampsic, so the baby was born early (it was planned C-sec anyway)

All levels were normal within hours of delivery.

If you feel you have been misdiagnosed then see another DR. Trust your feelings. Dr's are humans to believe me they make mistakes.
Best of luck!

This is very common in pregnancy. If your sugar has been fine up to 37 weeks you are doing great.Yes your sugar will return to normal after your delivery. Do not worry and enjoy your pregnacy!!! Eat right and go for 15 minute walks after meal. Your body burns alot of sugar with short walks. it stinks when your pregnacy feels like a medical condition. This condition is caused gestational diabetes. The placenta sens off a hormone that makes your insulin not as effective;

This happens to some ladies when they become pregnant. and when u have the baby it should go away. ask your Dr. for more info on it

I was perfectly fine before I got pregnant......then was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and after my baby was born went back to nomal for about ten years, then about thirty years ago, was diagnosed with diabetes again, only this time it stuck.

my sister-in-law had the same thing an everything was fine. an now she is pregnant again an they are no diabetes. hope this helps.

My family has a history of diabetes. When I was pregnant with my first child, (over 40 years ago) my urine speciman produced an extremely high sugar content. I was given a "fasting-blood sugar" test, which did not show any evidence of diabetes.

At 37 weeks of pregnancy, you are almost ready to deliver. If your doctor is just now determining that you might be diabetic, I would consider your doctor "negligent".

Stay away from sugar. All carbohydrates turn into sugar in your body.

Did your doctor say that it is gestational diabetes or not? If he is not clear, seek clarification. There is no point worrying over things that are not confirmed. Find out if it is really a case of diabetes or gestational diabetes that you are having and find the appropriate solution for it.

Here is an article to find out more about gestational diabetes

While what you're experiencing is mild gestational diabetes recent studies have indicated that women who experience it during pregnancy are at a much higher risk of developing Type II diabetes at a later time.

You don't have to have a history of diabetes to get any form of diabetes. Many people have tendencies and risk factors towards becoming diabetic and never develop it while others do.

You have received excellent advice.

Apparently you have gestational diabetes. You did not mention how high your sugar level is. A little high is not very exact.

You seem to be denying gestational diabetes. See another doctor in order to make sure.

Gestational diabetes means that you only have diabetes during your pregnancy.

This is a wonderful time in your life. You should be enjoying yourself waiting for the birth.

A word of warning though, those who have gestational diabetes are more prone to get diabetes later in life. That means you need to watch your diet and be tested at various intervals in the future.

Good luck, see another doctor, don't worry if you have gestational diabetes, it will go away and watch yourself in the future.

Your major concern right now should be your baby. You need to follow the diet and keep your blood sugars down until you deliver. Late gestational diabetes can be very dangerous to the baby.

After you deliver, you will most likely return to normal, although you have a risk of eventually developing Type 2 diabetes.
