A diabetic-Should i marry?

I and my brother are recently-detected(an yr ago) diabetics, we might have been suffering from the desease for far long. Our organs and their functions are found fit, but the level of sugar is not under control. we r taking metformin 500mg, half-half pill in the morning and evening before meals and thereby the sugar level after dinner is between 160-230, fasting 90-160, before dinner or after two hrs of lunch it is between 90-170. So, sometimes it is normal, many times not. we don't want to take insulin, rather we wish to leave medicines and control it by exercise.

we both are in permanent secured good job, but my job won't allow me enough time for exercise or taking care of my family. I don't think any girl would be ready to marry a diabetic who is gonna be a disabled or die anytime. Should we hide it and get married?

I don't see why you shouldn't get married simply because you have to watch your diet. That's kinda silly.

Learn all you can about diet and nutrition. If you're on such a small dose of Metformin, you should be able to work your way off in a short time... once you learn the proper diet. I can tell you that if you live like your ancestors of more than 200 years ago did, eating a wide variety of natural foods and getting plenty of daily activity, when type two diabetes was virtually non existent, you'll reduce your need for medication significantly. I'm not just throwing this out there. I've been off the Metformin since Dec. 13th. I now control my type 2 diabetes with a nutrient rich, low carb diet. Check this out, I eat between 500 and 800 calories a day of sugar. No, not table sugar, the sugar you find in natural fruits and vegetables. Huge difference. yeah hide it and then when she sees u with a needle injecting she will think ur a smackhead.

No, you need to be honest with your partner. You cannot hide your health problems from a potential spouse.

Diabetics get married all the time. Let the girl decide if she's willing to deal with your diabetes. DEFINITELY do not be deceitful and hide it.

Your real concern should be why you are in a job where you have no time to take care of yourself and a family--why is your job more important than your health. Although maybe you have more time than you know--you have the time to come on here and ask a question, didn't you?

This is way more common than you think. In some populations of people up to 30% of people have it.

If you don't have time to try controlling it with exercize you MUST control it with medicine. The destructive power of high blood sugar *will* ruin your health.

A best friend had 2 grandparents (1 on each side) with diabetes. One had a foot amputated, the other had gone blind.

But when she became a diabetic at age 12 her parents took her to the doctor and got her on medicine. Now she lives a pretty normal life. If she keeps her blood sugar under control she should be healthy until a ripe old age.

She has been engaged. Her fiance' is fine with her health issues.

that's silly. alot of people have diabetes and lead normal long lives if they make an effort to control their disease. and it takes about 30 mins of mild exercise 3 to 4 times a week. you should talk to a physical therapist or certified physical trainer about exercises you can do while sitting at a desk. remember too that you can always take the stairs, park farther from the front door, walk in circles while on the phone, etc. a little creativity can do amazing things. there's nothing in life you can't do that anybody else can. you need to do some reading and find out more about your disease and how to control it. and if you need some real motivation, uncontrolled diabetes can lead to erectile disfunction.

Hello,

You are one in billions of people have diabetic in U.S. There is nothing to be ashamed of. I don't agree that no woman would want to marry you due to your illness. You should check out guideline for diabetic on health websites. There are plenty of helpful information. Exercise is only one thing, but eating right is also another important thing.

Visit doctor every month if you can OR buy health supplies such as blood pressure measurement, blood sugar test equipment at Walgreen, Walmart.

I wonder how old are you since you did not mention in your question. In general, anyone can have diabetic, young and old, white and black, etc. Read and remember the guideline for diabetic either on web or a health book at bookstore will help you cope with the disease. Don't worry. You won't die from this disease.

Take care.

No,you should not hide the fact that you have this condition. If the person loves you they will accept it and help you in any way that they can. Diabetes does not mean you have a death sentence. Take care of yourself and follow the doctors orders. My mom has had it for years and functions very well.

first of all be HONEST with the person you plan to marry honesty is a good base for any relationship..my husband is a diabetic since 1992 we got married in 2003..he takes pills and 2 shots a day...we are working thru this ...a good diet and a good doctor will help.. LOVE is a great friend... you marry for better or worse in SICKNESS and in HEALTH for RICHER OR POORER if you both are true to your vows it will work it wont always be easy, nothing worth doing ever is ,but the benefits outway any thing else....LOVE PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING all keys that work together......

1- Put your priorities in order. FIND time to exercise, it's not impossible. Speak with a nutritionist and get on a decent diet.

2- Learn to make time for yourself. Why would you want to marry if you can't give that person the time they deserve?

3- NEVER lie to a partner about your health. That's insane. Do you want a relationship based on lies???

4-Diabetes is NOT a death sentence. Learn to take care of yourself and you can live a normal, healthy and active life.

5- If you ever need to use insulin, don't be stubborn about it. I was and I was foolish. I have progressed from a well controlled Type 2 to a Type 1 who cannot live without insulin (I'm kind of an autoimmune disaster). Insulin is a lifesaver and I am glad to be on it now.

Best wishes.

Diabetes is hereditary hence only the possibility is that your children might be diabetics. Diabetic patients suffer erectile dysfunction. But it can be discussed later with the doctor. He has to be more careful to keep it under control by adopting healthy life style and healthy dietary habits along with exercise. If not kept under control , it can damage kidneys and other organsas it is inter related with various organs. So its very important to take good care to keep every thing under control and you have to help yourself.

If your doctor is advicing you for insulin then please go for it with out any hesitation as it is safer than oral hypoglycemic agents.

The only thing is have regular glucose monitoring, healthy dietary habits, timely medication and active life style is very important. Nothing is impossible. EXERCISE IS MUST, just remember this. Also should learn yoga as it can be done at home to keep every thing under control. So every thing is in our hands.

You never know what happens in the future so don't worry about anything. Just enjoy your life to the fullest. Leave every thing on God and am sure every thing will be good as you will look after yourself and help yourself most of the time. It's in your hands. God helps those who loves themselves.

Should not worry about diabetes as in most cases its due to life style and these days there are so many diabetics and it doesn't matter whether it is type 1 or 2 as far as kept under control in both the types.

In any case make sure to give some time for the exercise as it is very important even 30 minutes is also ok. remember the saying "something is better than nothing".

Yes, you can live a healthy long life!!!

Good luck!!!

Yes if you love each other go for it!
But first be honest with her.
My father married my diabetic mother and now he is diabetic. But it dint stop them getting married
