Why doesn't Metformin have any effect on Prednisone?

Every morning, I wake up at 7 am with a "6" then I take 10 mg. of "P" with a glass of *unsweetened* soy milk and NO FOOD and my sugar goes to "10" until 3 pm when it *slowly* goes back to "6" by 5 pm. BTW, I did an experiment where I didn't eat from 7 am to 5 pm (3 days in a row) and that's how I know all this...

Anyway, I don't bother using "M" anymore in the morning because it has NO effect on my "P" induced sugar-spike. Why? Also: If I eat ANY significant amount of carbs within that 10 hrs. my sugar goes to 12 or higher even if I take "M" with my meal. So basically, within the first 10 hrs. of taking "P" I can only eat low-glycemic veggies & unsweetened soy milk in order to keep my sugar at "10". BUT after 10 hrs., I can eat high-glycemic foods and even a small dessert and my sugar stays within "8". Why? It's like I have diabetes from 7 am - 5 pm.

BTW: I've had Juv. Dermatomyositis for 33 yrs. and I'm dependant on prednisone.

There's a problem here if your drinking soy milk with your meds there's a good chance that it cuts the effectness of your meds. Also please avoid scams like the one above me the-diabetes-zone-dotcom. Drinking milk or even juice with your meds cuts their effectness in half it's almost like you didn't take the meds at all.

Well you have a lot of knowledge and it is good to know because is you health. Prednisone tends to increase the level of sugar and no one knows why. What you can do take Metformin before going to bed and prednisone in the am. Diabetes is a very tricky decease. May God Bless You!

Don't stop taking your meds without your physician's knowledge! Prednisone is a steroid and it does cause elevations of blood sugar. I know. I take it too. I have to take insulin to stay in control. Yes, watch your diet and carbs but take your medicine also. Very important as a diabetic to do all that you can to keep your level in control.
