What exactly does a dermatology nurse do?

Why would an organization hire an RN rather than an LPN...is there more to it than I imagine?

I know they help with hair skin and nail disorders but what sort of specific things might they do?

they help you with skin and hair problems such as acne, hair loss or rashes.

LPNs are needed but an RN has more expirence and can do things to help the doctor out more..so they might favor the RN more..as an RN you can assist patients on your own..such as writing prescriptions, but LPNs assits in general areas..

RNs cannot write perscriptions unless they are nurse practioners. An RN has more training and is able to do more than an LPN. LPNs have to be supervised by an RN.

If it's a cosmetic dermatology and laser practice, an RN would likely be hired to do some of their laser procedures. (Intense Pulsed Light facial rejuvenation and/or laser hair removal.) I have also heard of RN's performing Botox injections and other cosmetic procedures in dermatology practices.

If am getting any type of care, I will rather have the best in the business. LPNs are defined as technicians, RN s are the professionals. the dermatologist that insisted on hiring a RN knows that they are working with a professional and not a paraprofessionals.

She know it very well.

LPNs cannot diagnose Rn's can give a professional diagnosis LPN can only give out medications where as a RN can work along side the doctor more closely. In some clinics the RN is allowed to write up prescriptions

An Rn can do some of the procedures in a dermatology, office.

i bet she is right.

RN's can not give diagnosis, or write prescriptions!! Basically they assist the physician. They triage patients (assess importance of situations, etc) they can assist in some procedures, room patients, take vitals, etc.
