WHAT IS THIS? eczema or psoriasis?

my grandma has skin that looks like this

which is eczema except its not that severe. its EXTREMELY itchy, dry, red, just like that and obliviously annoying.
The other day we visited a skin specialist who said its Psoriasis but psoriasis looks like this:

and my grandma's back looks nothing like that and nobody ever in my family ever had psoriasis and i heard its mostly heredrity so yeah... i think its eczema what do you think?

plus my family is known to have eczema, my mom has it, i have it and my grandma also had it before just not as bad as this time. Now she has had it all over her back for over a year and we tried everything but nothing has worked.

its not like the skin doctor did any test on her to see if its really psoriasis he just looked at it

The doctor probably said that is is psoriasis because eczema is more of a rash type disease. I have eczema and from what I understand, both conditions can benefit from the same treatments, so it is okay if she is misdiagnosed between those two. You can always ask for a second opinion though if you are concerned. Hope this helps!

Psoriasis is only red at first then it gets a silvery scaly look to it. If you are applying lotion to it or washing often it stays red like that. My Mom has it all over her body and has had it for 50 years. It's not hereditary. It's an auto-immune issue. It's also extremely itchy and sore if you scratch it. There is no test for these kind of skin things. The doctor can tell just by looking at it which it is. Psoriasis can also lead to psoriatic arthritis which is very disfiguring. My Mom's hands and feet have gone completely to hell in one year from it. This is typically how psoriasis looks after the redness: http://www.crutchfielddermatology.com/tr...
Not pretty!

Sometimes it takes time to figure out if it's one or the other. My son has eczema and my grandfather has psoriasis. One thing that gives them both relief is Eucerin CREAM not the lotion. It comes in a tub and is very rich. For both of them it takes away the redness itching and burning after about a week. With continued daily use, it keeps new patches from popping up.
