Atopic dermatitis help please!? |
okay...umm, does naybody here have atopic dermatitis and if you do could you explain to me how to cure it. i've had it since i was born and i've used everything in my reach....well almost, and i need you gus's help! but hey, if you don't know what it is or have nothing nice or helpful to say about it, then just don't put anything cuz i'm only looking for advise and nothing else. I'm having the same problems. The only luck I've found is moisturizing constantly. I put Aveeno lotion on right after I get out of the shower, and I carry around some prescription emollient I was prescribed so when I have an urge to itch, I put it on and I can usually resist. Try to avoid lotions with fragrance in them; that's what I'm allergic to and even people who aren't allergic to it can have their skin be bothered more by fragrance. I hope that's of some help to you! a mud pack Atopic dermatitis is a chronic (long-lasting) disease that affects the skin. It is not contagious; it cannot be passed from one person to another. The word "dermatitis" means inflammation of the skin. "Atopic" refers to a group of diseases where there is often an inherited tendency to develop other allergic conditions, such as asthma and hay fever. In atopic dermatitis, the skin becomes extremely itchy. Scratching leads to redness, swelling, cracking, "weeping" clear fluid, and finally, crusting and scaling. In most cases, there are periods of time when the disease is worse (called exacerbations or flares) followed by periods when the skin improves or clears up entirely (called remissions). As some children with atopic dermatitis grow older, their skin disease improves or disappears altogether, although their skin often remains dry and easily irritated. In others, atopic dermatitis continues to be a significant problem in adulthood. |
