Depression...?

I am a homeschooled girl who is underage. I think I have depression and I have tried to commit suicide once (but lost the courage). I have told my parents about this but they think I just want attention...and I think the depression stems from homeschooling. I was wondering if

A) I can force my parents to send me to school (is there a code or law that says if a girl hates homescooling she MUST go to school)

or

B) There is a way I can get my parents to take me seriously. I really just want to get diagnosed...and maybe treatment. No hospitalization or anything.

oh yeah. i tried talking to a doc and my parents made me take it back. and ther is nobody to talk to....im homeschooled. no good friends or close relatives.

Do you have a doctor? You could try telling your Dr. or a close relative - maybe they could find a way to get through to your parents. ((hugs)) Hang in there. There are also tons of forums on-line that could offer some support for you.

*** After reading your additional details*** It sounds like borderline abuse to me. Do they completely isolate you? That is not healthy. You need to find a way to get some help!

please speak to your parents seriously and do your best to get them to listen to you. can you not go to the doctor on your own or do you have to have your parents there as he may be able to help. if not talk to another adult or older person soon about how you feel. you must get some help and advice quickly. take care

Two things for you hon -

1) There is no good reason to take your life. You have a purpose, something that you need to accomplish...what if you became the doctor who cured cancer???

2) If the homeschooling is an issue because you feel lonely and isolated, perhaps you could get your parents to let you join a sport or an organization like Girl Scouts - this would help you make friends and get out. Once your parents see how well you flourish being around other kids, they may take you more seriously and allow you to go to public school.

Good luck in your life.

ok well in my class i am taking now we are learning about stress and stress management...but i think its to just talk about depression and suicide, but what i want to tell you is that life is stressful. so try to take it a day at a time if you think you are stressed...take a step back from it.don't try blaming it on other things or people, find ways to relax yourself...get rid of your grief. you said you didn't want to go to a doctors, right, just find someone who you can talk to...since your parents think you want attention, you may not want to go to them for a bit so just try to find maybe something in the phone book about it......l8a

In another question similar to this someone speculated how even if it was for attention it would be no small thing to ignore. If someone has to go to such lengths for attention then they do need help. I'm not saying that you are doing for the attention but that will help in an argument. Make them listen to you by sitting them down and having a face to face conversation. there may be some reason why they don't want you to have this problems like pride or financial problems or something else. i don't know. If homeschooling is what is causing your depression then go to school. if you can't then just try to be more active with friends and get out of the house as much as you can.

First, if you ever feel depressed to the point that you are contemplating suicide again, please go to suicidehotlines.com. They have suicide counselors available, and have information on services available in your state.
Second, if you're not able to get your parents to change your mind or take you seriously, is there an on-line group you can join (so that you don't feel so isolated)?
Finally, if I understood you correctly, you were able to tell your doctor what was going on, but your parents made you "take it back." You may want to call your doctor's office and ask to speak to your doctor or your nurse. Explain what happened, and that you *really* think you need someone to take you seriously. Perhaps they will be able to help.
Best of luck....

please trust me from personal experience, you need to get help. Even if you don't act on suicide, depression is an illness. I can take over you, and you may end up being depressed and commiting suicide. Anyone can have depression. There is physical depression and mental depression. Physical meaning you cant control it, but you can use medication. Mental meaning if my dog died, i would most likely be depressed. Its human. I am very disgusted of your parents. Please, go to a friend or adult you can trust and tell them about your problem.

God Bless,
CJW
