A friend recently got dentures and the dentist said that the bite needed to be corrected.How will this be don?

A friend who got dentures recently finds that eating and speaking are difficult because the lower dentures keep slipping/coming loose in spite of paste,powder and wafer bonds.The estimated cost for new dentures is over $2000; and he is skeptical. What assurance is there that if he gets another set of dentures that they will fit properly considering that the dentist said the bite has to be corrected.Can the correction be done in the dentist's office or does it require a hospital stay?

It sounds like the dentist is just going to adjust the bite of the dentures. He may send the lower denture back to the lab and have the inside of it made tighter for your friend.
However, lower dentures are tough to keep in the mouth. Think about it...your soft palate under your tongue is moving as you speak and eat. Your tongue can pull up the denture, and the lower ridge is small.
There's no assurance that if he gets a new set, that they will be any better.
He may want a second opinion with a specialist called a Prosthodontist. They specialize in those types of things.

Lowers are tough on dentists too, because alot of them don't fit well. Sometimes they give everyone a headache.
