Future Dentistry?

Question here, i know dentistry as come along way in the past 50 years, but how far can dentistry progress FURTHER with teeth?

. better toothpastes
. maybe even growing lost teeth back.
. better ablitys to control senstive teeth (something half the world suffers with)

are we still still coming out of our shell in 'dentistry' or do we ALREADY know everything there is to know about teeth and best treatments available?

Technology is always evolving.
Dental supply companies are always working on the next big thing to sell to dentists.
I think that most of the advancement we will see in the next few years will have to do w/ things we already know.
For instance, we know how cavities are formed, and we know how to keep them from coming back. However, we have yet to find a filling/bonding material that is a guarantee. Some fillings leak, others fall out. I'm not saying we'll ever have a 100% effective filling or restoration, but advances are being made every day in that direction. We're also making advances in cosmetic dentistry, bone and tissue grafting, sterilization and radiography.
And, sure, better toothpaste. Better tasting, anyway!!
Happy Holidays!

There is alot more that dentists can learn. At the moment researches have been looking into regrowing bone so that they can make teeth by taking bone from somewhere else in the body. This eliminates having false teeth made out of porcelain. Pretty neat uh?
About the toothpaste thats just trivial stuff.

No you don't already know everything there is to know about teeth.

We in Dentistry are constantly learnig, researching and coming up with new ideas. I truly believe that trend will continue. We have an awesome teaching and research facility in Birmingham, Alabama(University of Alabama School of Dentistry). There is new stuff coming out of there everyday. Hang in there! Maybe one day a vitamin will be all you need to fix u'r teeth!! LOL!

The point that's missing is that most dental disease is preventable with the techniques already available.

i.e. using a tooth brush twice a day with a flouride toothpaste, a low sugar diet and not snacking between meals.

We already know that the best treatment is preventation!

I would love to see something like a mouthwash that does exactly the same job as brushing.
