Dentistry School?

Is dentistry like any other graduate program? How would the schooling be like, would I have summers off or would it be a full trimester?
Thank you

I am planning on writing my DAT's for a DDS degree. It would qualify me as a general dentist. For a normal DDS degree what kind of school year would I be looking at? No summer?

To receive a dental degree, you must attend a 4-year dental school. Most students have a bachelor's degree prior to entry into dental school, usually in one of the biological sciences or chemistry. Besides passing the Dental Admission Test (DAT) with a high enough score, you have to be admitted to one of the 55 or so US schools. Competition is stiff to get in, and you have to be about a "B" student or better. The curriculum is rigorous for 4 years, and most of your summers are involved in either clinical work or other work related to dentistry. Once you have graduated, you then have to pass a state board exam. If you pass that exam, then a state can issue you a license to practice dentistry. It's hard to become a dentist, and you have to be truly dedicated to pursue this degree program.

What are you going for? Dental Assisting, Hygiene, Orthodontics, Dentist......

I'm in school right now for Assisting and it's a two year program (AAS or Diploma) So far it's not too difficult but I'm sure it'll get more difficult. And in my school we have Christmas break for about a month and then come back for the second semester. And then after finals in May we're off until August/September... But all schools are going to be different.
