What's are the cutting edge methods for dental sealants?

I mean that cover the entire tooth, like porcelain or clear sealants that preserve the enamel. What's the procedure? Is it safe? Can cavities still form in sealed teeth? What precautions are there? The more informative the better. I'm looking for one of those very long if/and/maybe long answers with recommended links. Thanks

Hi i work as dental nurse and work in a specialist practice.

Dental sealents how you are describing are called fissure seleants. They are usually only done on children and are a thin coating thats painted onto the tooth and then hardend with a special light. They are applied to the flat suface of the tooth known as the Occlusal surface.

I dont think there is such a thing as porceliane sealents. You can get porcelaine inlays, onlays and crowns but theres no such thing out there where some thing is placed "over the surface" of the tooth. Reason being it would be too thick. In order to have an inlany or onlay placed onto a tooth, some of the tooth needs to be removed so that when you bite down your jaw fits back into your bite. Otherwise you wouldnt be able to close your jaw propaly and it would be extremley un comfortable.
But again I strongly advise against having this done unless there is some good enough reason as to why you need to have some of the tooth removed, unless you have decay or a large filling already on the tooth and you wanted to change it for cosmetic reasons.
Theres also such thing as a porceline crown also known as a cap. But again you shouldnt be having things like this done on a healthy decay free tooth.
Just remember nature made teeth with enamel. Theres nothing out there on the market that can beat this. Its the strongest thing in your body and no amount of porceline or fissure sealents will ever beat this.
By the way, the thing you should be more concerned about once your past you teens isnt deacy its gum desease. Its a slient killer for teeth. As adults we rarely suffer from tooth decay but gum desease instead.
Gum desease is an infection that eats away the bone surrounding the teeth and because we feel no pain or suffer any symptoms the problem usually goes unnoticed until its too late. Id advise you to pop into the dentist and just ask him to do a routine CPITN check. If hes a good dentist then he should have already been keeping an eye on this and hopefully theres no problems.
Hope ive answered your question as best as possible. If you need any more advise then feel free to email me.
