Is Dementia reversible?

I know someone who was diagnosed with dementia several years ago, with a detailed report from her doctor. Now certain other family members have produced a letter from a doctor stating she is of sound mind. Is this possible?

These seem like legal, not medical terms. My father has dementia (Alzheimer's) and he has signed over power of attorney to my mother but he is still capable of making many decisions for himself. If he shot someone, for instance, he would know that it was wrong so he's not insane by that definition. However he might not know who he shot or why he shot them.

It sounds to me like the family is trying to get control of her money/property and having a battle through doctor's documents. Very sad.

yes unfortunatly dementia cannot be reversed or stopped, it is a disease that is always progressing...there are drugs that can slow the process but nothing can reverse or stop it

a person with dementia is sound of mind just they get a little confused or forget things, you cannot commit someone who has some amount of understanding

no
