Alzheimers/ dementia?

My friend's mother has what appears to be severe alzheimers dementia and has never been medically treated. She's 80 years old. She he care for her with perscriptions or in an alternative matter. I need helpful tips

Give her lots of love. Be patient

My gran had dementia. She got some medication to help her.I helped her alot and talked to her so she was never lonely.

my mom is currently in the end stage of Alzheimer's disease...your friend needs first off to have an accurate diagnosis ; the symptoms could be many other diseases as well as drug interactions , etc . so, please take "Mom"to a physician ASAP .the time for medical care is now.good luck !

There are some organization listed in the Yellow Pages that can help with time-out for the care giver. They're set up like a day care for Elders who have Alzheimer's.
WTG for being so thoughtful!
Good luck

If she has never been medically treated and her caregivers are not helping her, or if you are concerned about her well being, call Social Services and ask them to intervene. While there may not be anything medically that can be done, oftentime social workers can put the family in contact with help.

She needs to get a formal diagnosis from a medical doctor before any treatment can be started. A lot of things cause dementia (Alzheimer's is just one FORM of dementia) or similar symptoms. Her grandmother will need to undergo cognitive testing, blood tests and some kind of brain-scan (like an MRI).
