Risperdal for Alzheimers or alcohol related dementia? PLEASE READ!!!?

My grandmother displays all of the signs of Alzheimers disease, she has taken tests for it more than once, she has been prescribed aricept. [Which is a drug used for Alzheimers] However her doctors have never told us anything clear. From what we read we feel that this is without a doubt what she has. Her behavior has been getting worse and she has been very arguementive and even gotten physical, so when she went to the doctor today she was prescribed Risperdal [an anti-psychotic drug used mainly to treat schizophrenia] So I decided to do some research because they told my uncle [who takes care of my grandma] that it was a behavioral drug. As soon as I started reading I saw all these things about how you shouldnt give this drug to people who have dementia related conditions. So I am now very worried, it said an increased cause of death can occur and that the FDA hasnt approved the drug for dementia related conditions. Please tell me anything you know about this!

I'm sorry I don't know the specifics, but I do know that a doctor should not prescrible non FDA drugs. It can be dangerous. I advise u to convince ur grandma to try a new doctor, bc the one she has sounds awful. Good luck!!!!
