Can you have vascular dementia without high blood pressure, high collesteral or any heart?

My father is suddenly in full blown vascular dementia. He has never had high blood pressure, high cholesterol or any heart disease. He had several small stokes two weeks ago which has brought on this condition. He is on anti psychotic drugs and has been declared insane. He will be living in a lock down psychiatric hospital starting next week. How did this happen? He also has neuropathy.

yes, those are risk factors but you can still have mini strokes from the aging process or just fragile blood vessles that give way.

I am so sorry about your dad. My mom also had Vascular dementia and it is so hard to go through. I am not a doctor so I can't medically answer your question but I don't think anyone really knows the full cause of Vasc. Dem. My mom did not have heart problem or hypertension but she definitely had high cholesterol especially triglycerides. I do believe in my heart that contributed to the problem.
I hope they can get your dad on a good anti-psychotic like Seroquel that will help him settle down and can regain some resemblance of quality of life.
My thoughts are with you.
