whats the differecne from dementia and alzheimers??

i think thats the correct spellig

DEMENTIA is a chronic or persistent disorde of behavior and higher intellectual function due to organic brain disease. It is marked by memory disorders, changes in personalit, deterioration in personal care, impaired reasoning ability, and disorientation. Presenile dementia occursin young or middle-aged people. The most common cause of of dementia is Alzheimer's Disease.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE is a progressive form of dementia occuring in middle age or later, characterized by loss of short-term memory, deterioration in behavior and intellectual performance, and slowness of thought.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia.

Dementia is one of the symptoms of Alzheimers

you get many many different types of dementia that affect people in different ways physically or mentally. Alzheimers is just one of the many type of dementia and it identified by forgetfulness. There are also different types and stages of alzheimers but that is a hole study on its own. I'v worked in a dementia care home for quite some time and i'v found that people with alzheimers can often still identify with people and suroundings that they have been used to from the past, but cannot adapt to new surroundings, lifestyle etc. where as other types of dementia patients have no or very little memory from the past.

Dementia is memory loss, as also in Alzheimer's, but the latter also affects body functions.

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disease, characterized by progressive cognitive deterioration together with declining activities of daily living, and behavioral change. It is the most common type of dementia. to determine if the person has dementia they would need to have a mini mental state examination which is done by asking questions and re-asking the same questions again after a short period of time, looking at pictures etc and about life history of the person.
Early symptoms is the loss of short term memory, which people just put down to forgetfulness at first glance, and then slowly progress over time to a loss of decision-making and being unable to look after themselves, they would need total supervision as they may forget to walk or even feed themselves. I have worked for many years in an EMI unit and have noticed dementia is affecting much younger people now, it was associated more to the elderly when I first worked there but not any more. if you think you may have dementia go to your GP and get tested it could just be clinical depression. Get the test done for you own peace of mind good luck.

Dementia is a broad term; alzheimers is one of many types.

A correct diagnosis of alzheimers can only be made post
mortem as it's to do with deterioration of neurones etc, but can still be diagnosed when alive but really should be alzheimers-like disorder. It's just a specific type of dementia really.

Short and easy: Alzheimer's is a TYPE of dementia. So everyone with Alzheimer's has dementia, but not everyone with dementia has Alzheimer's.
There are several types of dementia and a person can have more than one type at a time.
