AND REMEBER DEMENTIA AND ALZHIEMERS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT DISORDERS

This is purely a mental disorder generated out of pressures and ill health.Compassion, love, tolerance from familly members is the first requisit. The other things are recreations, change of environment, check of health parameters etc.CERTAINLY IT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE HERIDITARY.Such disorders occur with young and intelligent mind who is often challenged for his/her views.
We have to be tolerant to help he or she.
In my personal opinin modern tranqilisers have no place to cure such disorders permenently.

I'm not a doctor, but I would think that 18 is too young to be showing signs.

Go to your doctor and let them check these things out.

Here is a site that may help you:

1) It is (obscenely) rare, but children not yet even in their teens have shown signs of dementia.
2) Yes and No. Some families have a history, and persons in those families are more likely to suffer from it. However, family history does NOT mean you will suffer from it.
3) It is a chemical imballance. IT *may* have a genetic component, but last *I* remember hearing (as a lay person), they don't know for sure.
4) Eh? If you mean "Alzhiemer's," then it can be treated. However, it is not completely effective, and if started early enough, can delay it's onset, and reduce it's seriousness. If you mean other forms of dementia, they can be treated and controlled with a greater or lesser degree.
5) Yes. Again, Alzheimer's, can be diagnosed decades before onset...with 100% certainty in an autopsy...less certainty with other tests, but it can be tested for. As for other forms, yes, again, they can be checked for as well.

My husband has Alzheimer/dementia. Started at 70. I go to meetings and the youngest person there is in her 50's. I never heard of someone at age 18. It does run in families but I was told on the mother side. My husband has been on two medications and he is still doing some functions such as eating, bathroom, but starts to forget faces in the family. I am sure that if he did not have the meds that he would be further along.
One can't tell for sure if you have Alzheimer or dementia, only after you die can they do an autopsy and be sure.
If you are very concerned, check with a doctor.
First thing they do is have a scan and check if there are blockages in the veins. It is quite simple and does not hurt and can put your mind at ease. I doubt very much that you can have indications of dementia at 18.
Good luck to you.
If you know someone with dementia have A LOT of patience!
You will need more than you ever imagined.

im 43 and in my early stages take meds for it i somes forget things canot spell like i use to. yes it can be diagnsed.
