I 'm visiting NY & on Kadian can a PrimeCare doc. in NY or PA precribe Kadian? Or do I have to see pain doc.? |
I called some pain management clinics in Elmira NY, and all of them seem to be injections only. I can't just stop taking it and start taking something else without a doctors guidance. I live in Florida, and the pain management places here do both, pill therapy as well as injection if needed. So far I've only needed therapy in pill form. I have degenerative disk disease and that has caused me to have some herniated disk and some narrowing, and pinched nerves. I have talked it with my doctors here. You must not understand what Kadian is! Kadian is a form of Morphine. That is a controlled substance. I can only get one prescript a month from pain docotor, HE can NOT give me refills. Even living here in FL I have to go to him each month for a new prescript. I will be in NY for four months. The rest of my meds there is no problem, I can get enough refills for them. Pain doc here said I'd have to see someone up in NY to get new scripts for. So there is no way I can take enough Kadian with me. I was in hopes someone who works in an office sees this and can answer my question, so I know if I can see a regular doctor or what. So see I HAVE been doing homework on this. :oP And that is why I am on here for! If I knew the answer I wouldn't be asking you people. Why don't you have your medication with you? If you are visiting another state and need your meds, I would go to an ER or Urgent Care and give them your pain doctor's phone number. They can call your doc and consult him. But again, I am skeptical as to why you don't have youor meds or enough of your meds with you on this "visit" to make it through until you get home. If you were going to run out whil you were out of town, you should have addressed this with your doc at your last appointment before you left. If they got stolen, file a police report. If you've taken too many, then that's something you unfortunately brought upon yourself. Anyway, as I said, my advice is to go to an ER (this would be preferrable) or an Urgent Care, explain why you don't have your meds, and give them your doc's number. Even if he is not there there will be someone on-call to speak with and they can consult them and find out what to do. I just can't imagine why you would be out of town without your meds if you are a chropnic pain patient. Being once myself, i can tell you I have both a key fob and a small extra bottle with the prescription sticker on it that I put a small amount of my long-acting med and breaklthrough med in and keep them with me EVERYWHERE, particularly the breakthrough med. It doesn't make sense to me that someone with chronic pain would not do the same-- keep a small amount with proof of them being prescribed to the patient-- on them at all times. |
