I have degenerative joint disease, does that qualify as a disability?

I have degenerative joint disease, does that qualify as a disability?

Yes it does in Australia. As long as you have a letter from a Doctor stating you are unable to work.

NO because it is repairable with surgery.

If you can type and work on a computer then you are able to work. Why go on disability if you don't have too?

DJD is present in almost all of us over 35, if you have walked upright since childhood. No injurance company or government agency would recognize this as a disability.

Its reparable with surgery if you have a great insurance plan, but depending on your doctor, he may sign your papers, you never know till you try.

That is something that is up to your Doctor, and the state you live in.I wish you luck, I would say if you can not walk, and are useing a wheel chair ,then maybe.

I have one also avascular necrosis. I am on disability. If you have any more questions email me. Good luck.

In most cases, depending on the severity, yes. You definately qualify for the blue car tag. Speak to your physician and discuss disability issues and options with him.

Kat, I'm in the same situation as I stated before. Keep talking to your doctor and get a lot of opinions from specialist in the field. If you think your case is strong enough, you will have to start looking into the Social Security Benifits Program. But have fair warning, they are extremely selective about labeling a disability and the paperwork can take up to 2 years or longer to get approved.
