Degenerative Joint Disease?

About 2 weeks ago, I was x-rayed by my doctor's office after I had a bad fall from my pet dog (medium sized) jumping on me from behind, and bruised my buttock and leg area. The doctor wanted to see if my hips are ok, so he had my hips x-rayed. I got a letter from him last night, "Your X-ray from 2/14/08 was normal, it also shows degenerative joint disease".

I am 38 years old, and my buttocks and legs are almost completely healed after a week of limping and in pain.....so I have never heard of this conditon before....how bad is it and is there a cure for this?
