IS DEEP vein thrombosis an old person's disease, and what are the symptoms? |
I have been having pain deep in my leg in the inner thigh area. Someone on here scared me once with this "deep vein thrombosis" thing. Isn't that a blood clot? I thought younger ppl couldn't get blood clots. The pain has been considerable in the last few days and I was wondering if I should see my doctor. I am not overweight or on meds or anything. I would see a doctor, they can ultrasound the area to see if there is a clot. It is not an older persons disease. It can be caused by injury or "just happen". I clot is very serious, don't mess around. I had one when I was in my 20's. No, DVT is a clot that is commonly found in the area behind the knee in a vein. It can be caused by anti-coagulation disorders or as a side effect to some medications such as birth control pills. It can also occur after someone has surgical procedures, especially surgeries to the lower extemities (legs). The symptoms are pain, redness, warmth and swelling. It can be life threatening and can only be treated by a physician. It requires medical care immediately!!!!!!!!! You should see a doctor. I know a guy who is 27 who has deep vein thrombosis. His first occurrence was when he was fifteen. The blood clot ended up in th blood vessels in his lungs. It occurs more often in older people, but if you genetically lack certain blood enzymes, it can occur at younger ages. No its not an old person's disease. Go to your Doctor anyway. Why are you living with this pain everyday? |
