Deep vein thrombosis: flying for ten hours? |
my mum has deep vein thrombosis and were going on a ten hour flight to Hawaii, what will she go through and how can she prevent it? you must MUST MUST check with her doc prior to the flight but when ever my parents fly from the UK to to the USA to visit they [with docs knowledge] take half an aspirin, this thins the blood just enough to help for it not to clot for a week prior to flying, they also wear without FAIL the special socks that you can buy to assist in helping the circulation and like already mentioned make sure that they walk around the cabin every half an hour for about five mins or so.............as your mother already has this problem in her medical history you really MUST be guided by what her doc tells her. Mobility. She will need to get up and move around at least every 30 minutes. Walk down the cabin and back or do range of motion exercises in the seat of that is not possible. |
