Blood clot; (deep vein thrombosis) in my lower leg.?

I'm taking Coumadin, its working but not too good. Now I have little red dots all over my feet, legs and some on my arms. What the heck is it? It doesn't hurt or burn, its just red bumps, everywhere? I have an appt. with my doc on the 6th, just thought you guys could help me out here. I'm kinda freaking out =(

I had my levels checked on Tues. My PT time (prothrombin time) is suppose to be 10-13 seconds to form a clot, mine is 6.7 seconds. So they took me off Coumadin til Friday, the start smaller dose . . .

Coumadin is used to make the blood less likely to clot. Unfortunately, the difference between too much and just enough of the drug is very narrow, and you need to monitor your blood clotting carefully to make sure you are on the right dose. This test is called an INR, and is used to adjust the Coumadin dose.

Getting little red dots could be a sign that the dose is too strong, although it might just be a side effect of the correct dose. If you haven't checked your INR recently do not wait until the 6th. Ring your doctor and let him or her know, or go to the emergency room and get an INR done.

(Additional) Prothrombin time and INR basically test the same thing. It sounds like your dose has been a little high, and they are correcting it by getting you to skip a few days and then restarting at a lower dose.

Coumadin is a tricky drug to use, but DVTs are a serious problem and it's important you take it EXACTLY as prescribed and do all the right tests at the right time. Keep in close communication with your doctor.

You need to get to your doctor or hit the ER..you need to get a venous scan so they can see whats going on. You dont want your problems to get worse.

they're probably just broken blood vessels, it's pretty normal while on coumadin. that doesn't mean it's "working but not too good." that means it's working, your levels just may be a little high. it's more important to have your blood thinned by the coumadin after a dvt and live with the pettechia than to be off the coumadin and have a massive pe and die. so if you're significantly bruising and getting redness, call your doctor before the 6th to have your levels checked, but i would advise against stopping your coumadin.
