What are the symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis DVT?

How would I know of I had one and what do you do? I am preggers, fat and have a painful leg, I am a complete hypochondriac but would like to rule it out?

In most cases of DVT, the clots are small and do not cause any symptoms. The body is able to gradually break down the clot and there are no long-term effects.

Larger clots may partially or totally block the blood flow in the vein and cause symptoms such as:

swelling of the calf - this is usually different from the mild ankle swelling that many people get during long haul flights for example

pain in the calf

calf pain that is noticeable, or worse when standing or walking

These are not always a sign of a DVT, but if you experience them, you should seek medical advice.

The leg would be red, swollen and hot. A classic test is called Holman's sign. Try to point your foot up towards your head, very painful with a DVT. Treatment is anticoagulants and rest.

its probably just circulation ..because of you being pregnant and because of the extra weight your carrying ...speak to your midwife for ways to help good luck !!!!!!!!!!!

Think leg can feel cold. You're maybe getting cramps, know I did when I was pregnant. Was given calci-chew tablets, dunno if docs still do this. Talk it over with your midwife

Deep vein thrombosis may not cause symptoms until the blockage severely interrupts blood flow. Then, you may experience symptoms, such as: pain, sudden swelling in the affected leg, enlargement of the superficial veins, reddish-blue discoloration, skin that is warm to the touch. If you have symptoms like these, you should contact your doctor right away.
As you are pregnant, however, the pain may only be caused by the extra weight you're carrying. Get it checked-out to give you peace of mind.

dunno

because you are pregnant, I would certainly go ahead and call your doctor's office and report your symptoms.

The symptoms include: swelling, warmth, redness, and pain or tenderness. A more complete description of DVT as well as a discussion of prevention and treatment can be found at: http://www.webmd.com/hw/heart_disease/aa...

it can also apply to a certain part of the man's anatomy!

DVT can be very difficult diagnosis to make. If It is suspected you need a an ultrasound scan to exclude it.
Usually pain and swelling in one leg- if you have these, then you need a scan urgently to exclude it.
Good luck

your leg would be very hard&hot good luck
