I want to go on dianette but...?

it says on lots of websites you should use with caution if you're a smoker. i've smoked for less than a year, and the most i ever smoke is about 5 a week, on very rare occasions, 10, and i dont really consider myself a smoker, but do you think that is enough to interfere with the pill and cause a risk of deep vein thrombosis etc? how much do you have to smoke to be 'a smoker'?

please dont just tell me smoking is a bigger risk to my health etc. its not very helpful advice. i'm fully aware of that and thats why i smoke so rarely.

thanks in advance.

also im going on it for acne, ive been on antibiotics for 6 months, and when i came off them my skin got worse again, so i tought id try something new, is there something else you would recomend? (not pro activ)

The reason they say women who smoke should be careful when it comes to the pill is because the smoking causes the blood vessels to narrow making it hard for the blood to go thru the rest of the body. This is also what can put some people at risk for enbolisms and other kinds of blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis (which is more common if someone is recovering from surgery as an example).

I would also recommend checking with your dr to see what they say.
