My brother has been discharged from hospital after recieving a CT scan of the brain & many tests done on his eyes! His blood pressure is also stayed between 160 - 190 for a long time. On his discharge letter it refers to a 'small vascular occlusion in the mid-brain' - can anyone shed any light on this for me???
I have checked up online - one site says that a 'vascular occlusion' is a treatment carried out to restrict blood flow to certain vessels, or direct it elsewhere or to stop blood flowing to tumors. Another site says that a 'vascular occlusion' is a blockage of the vessel which could be caused by a blood clot & could result in Deep Vein Thrombosis!
Anyone got any knowledge of this??? a very small blockage of one of the miniscle arteries in the middle of the brain. they would not discharge him if oit were dangerously large so obviously bllood is still able to get through the blood vessel. I'm assuming though that thye have given him medication for his blood pressure and suggested soem lifestyle changes e.g. cut out caffein, alcohol , nicotine and go n a low fat diet. Not knowing more details, it is hard to say Did they run tests for clotting disorders? I have a clotting disease that has led to strokes and vision problems. When my blood is not properly thinned with anticoagulants, my blood pressure shoots up as well. Your brother needs to follow up with his primary doctor for them to check for clotting problems. I have antiphospholipid syndrome. This is autoimmune and has nothing to do with life style.

BTW.. do not let a Dr. tell him that this does not happen in men. I know many with this disease.
