Explain how the person's emotional and social health maybe affected due to having deafness?

The human being is a social animal, which means that it needs human interaction, "one on one" and in groups. Human interaction makes a person grow spiritually and determines his/her personality and character.
Deafness makes it impossible to communicate and cuts one off from social contact. In effect it stunts personal growth. Many deaf people suffer under their condition, but do not know how to compensate for it. There are however special individuals, who instead of retracting in themselves, see their deafness as a challenge to break out of their cocoon and who are often very successful at it. The most famous case is Helen Keller. If you have seen the movie "The Miracle Worker" with Ann Bancroft, you know what I mean.

A state of depression may occur if the deaf person cannot find a way to communicant . As they will feel cut off and different from other people. They will tend to be shy unless they find someone who can hand talk with them at gatherings.

How incorrect he is! What facts has this person got to back this up? I am deaf. All deaf people have to communicate since toddler age just to be able to go to school. I mean most grow up being bilingual in English and A.S.L. I mean how does knowing two languages make it impossible for a deaf person to communicate!?

Ok now to your question....my emotional and social health is just fine. Deafness has not given me any problems at all.
