Help with Cystitis Symptoms - please!!!!? |
I developed cystitis Sunday night and have been in agony ever since. Sitting down is a problem, going to the toilet is even worse. Im trying to drink lots of water, cranberry and not having any tea or coffee. I am on antibiotics and potassium citrate - but nothing seems to be easing the horrendous burning. How long till antib's will start to work and has anyone any other top tips to help me get over this? Leave cranberry juice alone, the acid in it makes it worse. Drink just water and take your antibiotics like they are supposed to be taken. For the time, stay away from tomatoes, or any fruit or veg, that is real acidic. You're lining is irritated from the infection so everything will feel like alcohol on a cut. I wish I could help more! I have IC (Interstitial Cystitis) I feel your pain! BTW, be careful how much water you drink....there is a such thing as water poisoning...so don't go down gallons of water all at once! Lots and lots of water and cranberry juice if they are not working, try wearing cotton underwear and a skirt. If no joy go back to your GP don't let yourself be in pain. Water will work..but you will have to drink pints of the stuff to shift the problem.... You should feel some relief soon. However if you have not relief by tomorrow you should go to the doctors. You may need a stronger antibiotic. The only way that is guaranteed to work is water - by the gallon. Try and not go for as long as possible, I'm talking hours, while drinking tons and tons of water (I'd recommend at least 2 large bottles) then when you do go it'll flush through, be prepared for the agony of the hours that you're holding though. Hope this helps x Sometimes it takes 2-, 3 days before the antibiotics work., but you should be ok after that. Take ALL the medicine, otherwise the infection will just come back. Trust me, I've had it before myself. As for the pain, it's something you just have to deal with. But usually after the second day of medicine it goes away.Let me know how you're doing ok yes drink loads and i mean loads of water and cranberry juice. I hope you are using these antibiotics; Gantamicin, Metronidazole, Cephalosporine (like cephtriaxone or cephotaxime) and continue drinkink water too much with rest, i hope you will improve soonly. GOOD LUCK. Keep drinking the water and cranberry juice. For every glass of juice you should be taking in 3 glasses of water. Drink lots of water to keep the bacteria from collecting in your bladder. Drink a lot of water, and have a glass full of unsweetened cranberry juice every day. Good nutritional advice. There is more that you can do, but start with the easy steps first. I've had this for about 12 days now and the only thing that gave me relief is these little sachets of cranberry powder stuff you get from supermarkets in the health aisle, such as Tesco Cystitis Relief (sodium citrate cranberry flavour) which you mix with a glass of cold water and drink it, it tastes like soap but it's sweeter than cranberry juice so it's not all that bad. Urine sample should have been sent to lab for culture sensitivity test before starting antibiotic therapy. If you did not, please send one now telling the lab name of antibiotic used. For you now , you need to take antispasmodic tablet 3times daily as Buscopan plus, and Half bar (proximal) is available as effervescent and as tablets choose the most convenient for you. Adding these 2 drugs will give you some rest, but this is not the end of the story .Urinary tract infection is a serious thing. It is a threat to kidney function if it is recurrent or chronic. It can also contribute to renal hypertension. Measure your blood pressure now and every 2 weeks. When urine culture result come receive the appropriate antibiotic for ten days. after a week of ending therapy redo urine culture to be repeated after one month then after 2months no growth result is the sign of cure total follow up time is sex months.good luck to you consider how valuable kidneys are the price of this care is nothing compared to renal transplant or to dialysis. Take it serious and be healthy ever after. Cranberry can actually irritate the bladder because it's acidic, so just stick to water, drink plenty of it and don't hold your wee - go when you need to. the secret here is to drink enuf water on a daily basis to keep from getting bladder infection in the first place, and cranberry juice is just a preventative in addition to the water... I see no one has mentioned drinking apple juice,,,you can drink this in addition to the water you are drinking now. Plenty of water and some cranberry juice (which is what just about everybody else has said). With regards to antibiotics, they need to be in your body for 24 hours before they start working. Nurofen for the pain. Try laying in a tepid-warm bath (this might help). Your symptoms should be easing now so I suggest you go back to your Dr. I sympathise. |
