What should i do if the cystitis doesn't go after the treatment powders?

have taken the cystitis powder and still have burning pee

i have tried cranberry juice. i have antibiotics too. just wondered if anyone had a different approach. thanks

I am sorry that you are suffering so much and hope that the antibiotics kick in soon.

I know what I am about to say may sound crazy but this is something told to me by a midwife when I got cystitis after the birth of my daughter - so things were pretty sore all round!

When you go for a pee, pour luke warm water over the area at the same time. This reduces the volume of acid in the pee and reduces the stinging. It seems to generally soothe and make peeing much less painful. It worked for me, has worked for my daughter too now, and I have recommended it to friends in the past who now swear by it. I can't guarantee that it will work for you too, but anything is worth a try - and it doesn't cost you a fortune either! If you can boil the water first and then let it cool to avoid any thing in the water causing a further infection then do so - but I haven't bothered always when I have forgotten to prepare the water beforehand.

Good luck - I really hope that you get better soon as this can be such a horrid thing to have to deal with.

Go to the doctor because they can prescribe antibiotics for it.

Edit... were the antibiotics from the pharmacy? Or do you mean the powder sachets that you can get over the counter? Cos the only thing that has worked for me are the antibiotics (in pill form, not powder) that my doctor prescribed for me. It may take a few days for the antibiotics to work and make sure you complete the course because if you don't there's a risk cystitis will come back. In the mean time just try to drink lots of fluids as other answers have said and have a good supply of cranberry juice!

Edit - part 2 :) right, so you're self medicating, and you're a nurse... are UTIs an area that you work with? And would you prescribe antibiotics for patients with cystitis? If you do, then you'd probably know much more about it than any of us, as I only have experience as a patient. Or maybe (and i really mean this with no disrespect) if you haven't been trained in this particular area you might not be taking the correct dose of antibiotics and for the correct period of time. For instance, I am about to graduate as a speech and language therapist, and if I get a patient who has had a stroke and I'm treating their language difficulties, and then I realise they may have depression, even though I have some counselling training, I would refer to the appropriate services for diagnosis and treatment of depression (if appropriate). My point being that it might still be worth going to a doctor.

cranberry juice, and lots of it!

doctor and loads of fluids

Drink cranberry juice. It works every time for me

you need to make sure that it is cystitis, it could be a bladder infection, so you need to see a doctor. take a urine sample in a small bottle with you so they can check it. But to help you in the mean time take some painkillers if you are in pain with it. and drink plenty of fluids. cranberry juice will help, but so will camomile tea hot or cold. and barley water is brilliant. good luck but get checked out.

TAKE THE ANTIBIOTICS. Nothing else will work.

Recommend that when you do manage to shift this latest bout, that you drink as much water as possible to help to keep your bladder well flushed though; I always found that helpful. You need to make it part of your daily intake of fluid wether you have cystitis or not. Hope this helps.

I have suffered with water infections for years and i get them regular. I thought i had cystitis at first but it turned out to be water infections. I tried barley water, crandberry juice, lots of water and powders these dont always work for me. I have had lots of anti- biotics and they have not always worked but i have been persistant and my dotor has changed them when they have failled and this has eventually worked. She gave me lots of advice about drinking lots of water and also she advised me that if i was having sex that i should visit the toilet straight after i know it sounds perverted. She also advised me that if i needed a wee to go straight away and not to hold it in. Good luck with this problem and i hope you get it sorted.

If the powders don't work the only option is antibiotics. Cystitis will become a UTI pretty fast is it isn't treated. The antibiotics you had in the house may or may not be appropriate for treating a UTI, as a nurse you should know better than to keep things like that around. Your GP or practice nurse would give you a prescription for the best antibiotic to treat this.

have you tried the doctor I'd try him/her and if they were/are no help go to a GUM clinic.
