Insterstitial cystitis treatment...?

I am being treated for interstitial cystisis through a 6 week DMSO instillation. I have had 5 treatments so far and no change in symptoms. I have also been on a pretty strict non-acid diet for more than a year with not much change in symptoms... Getting frustrated... Has anyone had success with DMSO? Are there any other suggestions to treat IC that have worked well?

I've been through the dmso treatments and they did not help me either. Antibiotics do not work for interstitial cystitis because it is not an infection, its not the same as cystitis, which does respond to sulfa drugs such as bactrim. Also with IC you should avoid cranberry juice or pills you should try too avoid acidic foods or drinks too but I'm sure you already know about that stuff.
I know it sucks, it has changed my life and not for the better. I am pretty much home bound now and am an disability. Sorry didn't mean to go on and on.....take care

I am taking low dose nitrofurantoin every day for my cystitis and it helps me greatly. When I stop taking it, my symptoms recur, so I will continue to take it indefinitely. Report It

A 6 week DMSO instillation? Are you in the USA???
I would think you would be put on a good sulpha antibiotic. No regular doctor would treat this or anything else with a regiman of DMSO! You must be in Mexico or maykbe southern Florida where we have a great many doctors who practice this type of quackery so they can make more money by getting you to come in for expensive treatments regulary. I would get a new doctor, one that does not do any type of in-office treatments himself.
Get a copy of your bloodwork to take to a new doctor!

I have only heard of 6 week treatments with Sulpha drugs myself and as a victim myself I strondly recommend daily intake of Cranberry or Blueberry juice it keeps me clean..........so to speak.
