Cystitis questions?

what tests need to be carried out what does the doctor do does he need to see the genitals? do i have to get naked?

when do you get the results back

what is the time frame in which you return to normal?#

thanks x

After having suffered this problem for years I have sympathy for the pain you have had. You didn't say what they are doing as a test? If it is just an urinalysis then you probably won't have to be exposed. If there is a lab in the office they can probably tell you if there is an infection but if they are doing cultures it takes a couple of days.

When do you return to normal? That depends on you. If you will increase your water intake, not coffee, soda, tea etc, it needs to be water, you will get some relief within hours. You need to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Once you have this problem it seems to never go away. If you can stand the taste of it, get some cranberry juice (with a high concentration of juice in the mix, I think it is 27%) and drink that. Put it on ice and it goes down better.

Unless the urinalysis comes back showing an infection, you may not need antibiotics. I posted a website for you to go to and see more detailed information. Here are a couple of sections from the site. I hope this helps

"Cystitis occurs when the normally sterile lower urinary tract (urethra and bladder) is infected by bacteria and becomes irritated and inflamed. It is very common."

"bacterial cystitis, the most common type, which is most often caused by coliform bacteria being transferred from the bowel through the urethra into the bladder "

you just pee in the test tube he can check it there and then

You will need at least a urine dip and a culture. These simply involve you urinating in a container which will be analyzed. The results of a dip take a couple minutes while a culture takes a couple days. Antibiotics are often prescribed, and you should begin feeling better within 48 hours.

if you have sign of cystitis (burning when urinating, not much wee there when you do, need to pee badly but not much comes out) then just nip into your local chemist and ask for the sachet you drink. You only need a couple and it clears up. in the meantime, drink lemon/barley water

As you know Cystitis is an infection of your bladder. And if you already know that then you were already diagnosed. So your doctor should have prescribed antibiotics.
You do need a follow up to make sure that the infection is gone. So you will have to urinate in a specimen cup and the urine again will be examined.
He shouln't need to inspect your genitalia. Unless he suspects that the infection originated in your vagina and then traveled into your bladder, which is how most bladder infections or Urinary tract infections (UTI) occurs

the only exam for cystitis is routine urine analysis then urine culture in order to give you the appropriate antibiotic ,there is no need to see your genitals or to be naked
