Cystic Fibrosis Question?

My 6 month old daughter has cystic fibrosis. Her genes are Delta F508 and R117H. So far she has been ok, she is on salt everyday and she has her physio every day aswell. The last few days she has been very constipated, to the point where there has been a little bit of blood when she does a bowel motion. This is obviously very distressing for me. I have got some gylcerol suppositories and they are helping her to poo easier. My question is, seeing as she is not on enzymes, could a lack of enzymes cause constipation in a child with CF?

I have a son with CF and it has been my experience that if he does not take his enzymes, he has loose bowl movements not constipation. When he was a baby his bowl movements were very loose and greasy and he was not gaining weight, then the doctor's put him on enzymes. However, if this is a concern you should talk to his CF doctor. I will be keeping you and your daughter in my prayers. If you ever need any advice or just want to discuss things just add me to your contacts.

I don't know how many people on here have had to deal with CF, and I can't answer your question, but have you tried the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's website? www.cff.org . They can help you find support in your area, and have a lot of info, too.
Good luck!

Best wishes to you and your little girl. I am not knowledgeable about CF but I am knowledgeable about babies and can't help but wonder if her constipation isn't just a part of babyhood. Reading a little on this subject I am going to guess that she is taking vitamins. Is she taking iron? My daughter stayed constipated as long as she was taking vitamins with iron or formula with iron. This is just something to think about.

Not enough fluids, not enough fibre or not enough exercise are usually the main causes of constipation. Do any of those apply?
