Possibly Cushing's syndrome? |
My mother has gained 65 lbs+ in 2 years due to being treated on and off with Prednisone and Salumedrol injections for COPD exacerbations and for other problems she has with her health. The weight she has gained is all in her face, neck and especially her belly. It looks like she has a beach ball under her shirt, yet her legs and arms and behind have pretty much stayed the same. This weight gain is putting much strain on her knees; so much so that she has had to have arthroscopic surgery on both knees; now her hips and lower back are starting to cause her trouble. All her life she was always slender and active now she is basically in bed all the time because she is tired. The doctors don鈥檛 seem to have any idea why this is so. I鈥檓 wondering if I should ask him to test for Cushing鈥檚 Syndrome. Does anybody have any idea if I鈥檓 on the right track with this? It is very possible that you mom does have this condition. She can have the doctor check her Cortisol levels and then you will know if that is the problem. I really feel sorry for your mom and the pain she is in and I hope that she gets some relief from the pain soon. |
