Cyclic Cushing's Syndrome?

can cortisol levels in a person with cyclic cushing's syndrome go from extremely high one month to extremely low the next? Say having levels of well over 50 this last month in their 24 hr CFU, to having levels near 2 the next. if not cyclic cushing's syndrome, then what would cause extreme highs and lows in cortisol like this? BTW the patient is not a drinker, smoker, or druggie, and has not been on any steroid medication in 5+ yrs. i'd really like some original thought on this not just an internet copy of what cushing's is. I KNOW WHAT CUSHING'S IS SO PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT COPY AND PASTE PORTIONS OF SITES WITH JUST INFO ON HIGH CORTISOL OR CYCLIC CUSHING'S!!!

Cyclic Cushings Syndrome is well documented in the scientific literature. It is also sometimes called periodic hormonogenesis or intermittent hypercortisolism. It is suggested when three peaks and two troughs of cortisol production can be established. One study I have read demonstrated cycle lengths of up to 85 days. I would suggest that if the patient has had some high UFC results they should be thoroughly evaluated by an endocrinologist who specialises in cushings disease. Unfortunately many endocrinologists who lack experience in this area do not believe in cyclic cushings syndrome - I'm not sure why this is - perhaps they do not take the time to read all of the up to date research in this area and instead focus on the more common endocrine problems like diabetes.. If there is a chance that the patient has cushings it must be properly evaluated because any form of hypercortisolism can cause serious long term health problems.

Cortisol levels go up & down like blood sugar and blood pressure.
There's nothing called "Cyclic Cushing's Syndrome"; is this a joke.
If not, you better get a 2nd opinion.
