Does any one know any thing about cushing's syndrome and or cushing's disease? I'll say a prayer for your health. Cushing's syndrome is also known as hypercortisolism and is caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol. The symptoms include a rounded or"moon" face. It may be caused by overproduction of cortisol by the body or by taking glucocorticoid hormone medications to treat inflammatory diseases such as asthma and rheumatiod arthritis. My suggestion to find information is to go to WebMD-awesome site. Ask about hypercortisolism-or just go to a search engine and enter hypercortisolism. My guess is that they are sending you to a endocrinologist. Some of my best advice is to go in as an informed patient.+++More info--Cortisol is a hormone produced by the Adrenal cortex-it regulates the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in the body.
